Irtah, Jubara
Irtah-Jubara, Sunday, 3.7.2005, AMObservers: Orna P., Lea S. (reporting)Irtah06:40 – The new terminal has been opened. Most of the workers have already passed through in the last hour (it is impossible to see how many are still waiting), but they have complaints: 1. The terminal opens late, around 6 o’clock, while some of them are waiting by the gate from 4 o’clock a.m. 2. Not enough posts have been opened, although there are over 10 posts. People are crammed and pushed. 3.There is no separate post for the checking of women, and they are pushed together with the men. 4. A woman complains that although there are new machines, that show all that the bags contain, still the checkers threw out all the contents of her bag, inconsiderately, humiliatingly. 5. There are no toilets, not at the entrance and not at the exit, no water taps, and no shelters from the heat or the rain. 6. The terminal is shut down too early, around 5 o’clock p.m. Workers that return each day from far-away workplaces, like Eilath or Jerusalem, have to look for other checkpoints, that cause more waist of time and money. Jubara07:20 – Traffic is sparse. We have been allowed to park by the coffee shop. At the entrance to Jubara, an old man, without a permit wants to pass through, in order to visit his son. The soldiers (one from the DCO and the other – a volunteer of the seam line) do not allow him to pass. They suspect that he wants to work in Israel. A Palestinian woman, married to an Israeli, is also not allowed to cross over with her two children, because she did not obtain the right permit. The traffic of vehicles flowed, from both directions, unhindered. 08:20 – We left.
