Jerusalem
Bethlehem and surrounding, Friday 31.3.06,AMObservers: Ephrat B., Magdalena H., (reporting)At the Bethlehem “terminal” two tourist groups pass (from Chechia and Chicago) to Jerusalem. No Palestinians. The terminal was completly empty. One soldier exlained that all over the West Bank there is closure, because the “Pigua” (bombing) yesterday and because today is the “Day of the Land”. So they will let just humanitarian cases pass, but there were none of these.Opposite Tantur and beyond the traffic lights from Gilo there were flying CP’s checking ID’s. The soldiers didn’t keep the Palestinians waiting longer than the it took them to check their papers. There is a huge construction area around CP Beth Jallah, the CP himself quite without traffic.El-Khad’r was without soldiers and minimumal traffic. People asked us for help in family reunification and getting magnetic cards. On road 60 we saw many army Hummers.DCO Ezyon is still closed, where are they rennovating exactly? Even the soldier at the gate couldn’t tell us.South of the traffic circle Ezyon CP, but hardly any traffic. Both entrances to Al-Arub are open, soldiers are opposit the road.Beit Omar with invisible soldiers (in the Tower at the entrance). People are complaining about the hard and dificult economic and family situation and asking for help in the same cases as in El- Khad’r. We also get the story that last night the army took 15 fat’ah activists from their homes and they are still not back.
