Jerusalem
Abu Dis, Wadi Nar (Container)Thursday, 17.11.2005, AMObservers: Ruth E., Aviva W., Rama Y. (reporting) Abu Dis. A massive army presence all around, maybe in order to stop infiltration into Jerusalem. At the new gate, passage is smooth. Soldiers are quite rude, though. Soldiers check IDs of people jumping over the wall at the old gate; those who do not have permits have to jump back. At the entrance to the monastery two elderly men are sitting on the ground; they have tried to infiltrate, were apprehended and their IDs were taken from them. According to them, they have been waiting for their IDs to be returned to them since 05:00 (it was 07:00 already). We went in search of the soldiers, the two men following us. The soldiers would not to talk to us, but typically enough, they “spontaneously” called the men, some forms were filled out and the IDs were restored to their owners. Wadi Nar (Container). Long line of cars coming from Bethlehem; checking is cursory.
