Abu Dis & Wadi Nar Monday 24 January 2005 PMObservers: Ayala Z., Talia A.S., &. Noa Y. (reporting)General: No special incidents14:20 – The Monastery – people are continuing to cross through the monastery. No Border Police presence, and very few people in the whole area. The shopkeeper in the grocery near the wall in Abu Dis complained that he’s paid municipal taxes for years, and now he faces the wall that has ruined his livelihood – but he still continues paying taxes to Jerusalem municipality without any reduction. We met two van-drivers and asked them where exactly in Az-Zaim is the new site we’ve all been looking for. Apparently they park behind the barrier in the road facing the monastery. Some have sold their vans – there’s just no work. People walk to the bus-stop. Many of the drivers are awaiting trial for transporting illegals.15:00 – The Container – hardly any traffic. Pedestrians’ papers are checked, but not always. Cars go through quickly, some without being checked. There seems to be less and less traffic every week.16:00 – We left.
