There was a rather relaxed feeling, but it appeared that there were few permits issued. The petitioners spent a long time each at the one open window (up to 10 minutes each). We spoke with a young lawyer there who does work for peace groups in Jerusalem. He managed to get a two week permit. He asked for our help in two issues.1. His sister recently gave birth to twins, but she is unable to have them registered in her ID, because, he said, there is a strike at the Beit-El DCO and the registration must be done on the computer there. She has to travel to Jordan and cannot take her twins with her because they are not officially “persons”. Does anyone have any suggestions. I have Abed’s phone number and told him that I would let him know if there was some other way to get those children registered.2. His sister, (I don’t know if it’s the same one) was arrested and imprisoned for 3 months 10 years ago for throwing stones. As a result, she is blacklisted for coming into Israel. Is there some way that she can clear up her record.Continued on to The Container. There were huge lines in both directions. The BP’s did not seem to know what they were supposed to be doing. They stopped just about every private car, sometimes stopped vans, and then when the backup got too much for them, they just waved everyone through. One private vehicle that they stopped was one belonging to the German Consulate. They refused to let the car through. The two passengers (one Austrian and one Palestinian). Obviously they did not have the proper documentation for the Israeli registered car. When Chana asked them (in her native German) why they didn’t make sure to get the proper authorization in advance, the driver answered “they just cause us trouble all the time”.
