Bethlehem vicinity, Thursday, 14.12.06, AMObservers: Ruth E., Aviva W., Rama Y. (reporting)O7:00, Bethlehem CP: The magnetic both scanners functioned, but apparently the checking was very fastidious and slow, and the situation inside the CP was unbearable. We called the PC control office, and they confirmed that indeed the checking was meticulous (maybe because of the attack the previous day on a security man at Qalandiya CP). Of course the person we talked to claimed that there was no crowding, while Palestinians and an observer of the Ecumenical organization stationed on the other side of the CP said otherwise.08:15, Al Nashash: A military jeep was parked at the entrance, and was gone when we left. We delivered a receipt for fines to one person.08:45, Nebi Yunis: We had to deliver two more confirmations for fines paid. One of the two recipients asked us about the possibility of “family reunification” – he is married to an Israeli residing in Jerusalem. We gave him a phone number of an attorney, but what with the “citizenship law” this couple stands no chance at all, and the man knew it. His eyes were full of tears. The other man’s 15-year-old son is very ill and in need of a wheel chair. The boy was treated in Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, but no more, as the father cannot enter Israel. We gave him our colleague Yael S.’ number. 09:30, Ezyon DCL: Quite empty. About 15 men were waiting for work permits.
