Sheikh Saed, the Pishpash, Zeitim CPThursday, 01.02.2007, AMObservers: Yehudit S., Yael L-Y., Michaela R. (reporter) Christa – a guest.Summary – From one week to the other we see more and more civil guards on the checkpoints and in the different blockings. This is true vis-a-vis their spread and their numbers. The Pishpash gets more and more blocked, including passage of small children, and this is in contrast to former declarations.Sheikh Saed: 06:30 – One BP man and three civil guards. A young man drags two heavy paint containers. He is demanded to open the lids to check them. A woman almost skidded on the narrow steep muddy “path”. They check the bags and documents of adolescent school children. Youngr ones pass without a checkup. One woman was not allowed to pass. Sawahre checkpoint: 07:15 – Four metal gates were put on the road, above one of them there is a fence that looks electical. At the checkpoint there are two BP men, one soldier and one civil guard. The atmosphere is patronizing, volgar. There are shouts, loud singing and wild manner. The men are orderd to pull up a coat, a shirt, an undershirt, to expose a belly, a back, to turn around. All this in front of everyone, in the bone freezing cold of Jerusalem morning. The orders are shrieked on the loudspeaker. Children seem terrified. Women shut their lips tight. An elderly sick woman is being held by a man. She can hardly walk the way between the two ends of the checkpoint. They offered her a chair during the checkup of her documents.A tiny baby in his mother’s arms is being checked, in fear he is a bomb.A boy and a girl entered the area of the checkpoint and got the leftovers of breakfast from the soldiers: rolls of bread and more. This was done in an exhibitionist way. When we entered and approached the area of the checkpoint we were ordered to exit and stand behind the fence.Abu-Dis – The pishpash: 08:00 – The path between the fences for those going through was made more narrow, and a closed gate stands between the path and the shed. The path that goes around the shops is completely blocked by barbed wire.No one passes, and there is one man working on the fence.Zeitim CP: 08:25 – People are requested by shouts to show their documents after going through the first carousel. Inside too one hears shouts to take belts off. Two women are requested to show their documents before the shed. Their documents are not good enough and they are ordered to return. They retreat to the outer carousell and wait. At a certain moment they go forwards and enter the inner sleeve and… pass the checkups successfully.08:40 – the external carousel does not open. There are about fifteen people waiting. Only when a line of over twenty people accumulates the carousel oepns. In the DCO shed there is a big crowd. At 08:35 the officer and his accompanies go out to those waiting. Not a few people return home immidiately (not the right day?). Those happy ones enter and stand in line for the DCO.
