Jerusalem
Qalandiya and Ar-Ram, Wednesday, 15 June 2005, PMObserver: Yvonne M., Tammy B., Daniella, Ruthi B. (reporting)As we’ve already mentioned – the occupation routine…15:30 – Ar-Ram – Stringent tests of all vehicles coming from Jerusalem: the traffic jam reached right up to the Naveh Ya’akov junction. Soldiers were checking the papers of privately-owned cars. A soldier entered a bus and took people off – women and children without permits.15:45 Apparently the alert about a terror attack in Ramallah has ended, because suddenly all the checks stopped.Qalandiya: Observation of the new terminal: the road that goes around the checkpoint and encompasses the house of the Nasser family has been paved. It seems to have joined up the Geva-Adam road. There is one kiosk – fruit & vegetables – on the southern side of the checkpoint, while a market is booming behind the turnstiles.16:20 – At the checkpoint the “usual” hazing is going on.A seamline volunteer orders a man carrying a large wooden box to cross – of all things – through the turnstiles. A young man waiting for his wife had to cross the line a second time, because the volunteer’s feathers had been ruffled. Four women from Tulkarm were negotiating with the checkpoint commander and a representative of the DCO “Go to Surda, there’s an enclosure!” Unfortunately we only managed to get through to the relevant people after they’d been sent away. The answer we got was that there was no enclosure. It’s a phenomenon mentioned in the previous report – an enclosure that has been officially revoked. The soldiers, including the DCO representative, had no idea about this. Is this built-in into the method, or a logistic flaw of our Numero Uno army? Please monitor and check the daily version! Contact the Humanitarian Moked (it turns out that they are update) and the Jerusalem wraparound (Tzidki).17:30 Due to our constraints, we left early. At Ar-Ram, Israeli police were fining a driver whose backseat passenger hadn’t closed the safety belt.Final note for >b>Qalandiya shifts – according to attorney Gabby Lasky, via Kfar Ya’akub and Semiramis are in the jurisdiction of Jerusalem, so there is nothing to prevent Israeli citizens, including us, from going there.
