Jubara, Friday, February 2, 2007, pm Observing and reporting: Roni S., Elisheva E. Translator: Milette S. References: Tulkarm checkpoints: Report of Friday, January 12, 2007 Report of Friday, January 21, 2007 The satisfaction we expressed in the January 12th report was premature. It seems that a “mistake by the soldiers” was made, and that’s why those returning from work were allowed to do so in a logical way. . . We observed dozens of male and female laborers (50-60) who arrived at the checkpoint, most of them with a ride organized by their employers, and they were not allowed to enter at the Tulkarm junction. After inspection of IDs they were directed to Irtah or to the unpaved road to Shufa, where they could cross over (when there’s no military Jeep there. . .) According to what we were told by the laborers and also the soldiers, all those crossing back left this morning through the Irtah checkpoint. As we know, for budgetary reasons, the Irtah checkpoint closes on Friday at 12:30, and despite that the army does not allow the laborers to return home by a logical route. We are of the opinion that this needs to be handled vis-à-vis the army.
