Jurish
A gathering of women in Jurish
Yesterday, 9.12.14, a moving event was held in the village of Jurish between twenty-one members of Machsom Watch and participants in the women’s club in the village. The connection between us was strengthened as a result of our activity in the village teaching English and yoga, first to women and then to girls. We drove to the village in a caravan of cars flying Machsom Watch banners. We were very warmly welcomed by the women. The high point of the visit was the conversation in the club. Petahya, who’s fluent in both languages, enabled a free flow of communication between us and the Palestinian women, which contributed to the relaxed atmosphere, openness and the interest members of each group displayed about the other.
The meeting al
lowed those of our members who aren’t involved with the villages to obtain a sense of the warm human relationships and the trust that has developed as a result of our ongoing work in the villages, a connection which also affects other family members and the community.
It was a useful meeting which all participants enjoyed. Thanks to Dvorka for her initiative and the excellent manner in which she organized all aspects of the meeting.

Jurish
An ancient village, of which 62% of the lands were defined after the 1995 agreements as Area B, while the remaining 38% Area C. Israel confiscated 17 dunams of the village's land for the construction of the Israeli Migdalim settlement, in addition to expropriating land for Road 505. In mid-2016, a road was blocked by the IDF (partly paved by the Palestinian Authority) that connected Jurish to Road 505. This is the shortest way to get to Jurish from the main road, without bypassing another 6.5 km through Qusra.
From 2014 to mid-2016, volunteers from the Watch checkpoint in the village held English, yoga and Hebrew classes for girls.
