Observers: border policemen, new Abu-dis area DCO commander
Jan-29-2003
| Morning

6:30 – The wall wasn’t wired above, as we were told, so the “passage” was open. It was wildly wired behind the wall but it didn’t stop the brazen passengers, children from all ages, women with and without babies, some other well dressed, not young at all and also old men, to climb and to the other side of the wall, very grateful for our small helps, to move quickly to their daily struggle, into Jerusalem area. The wall was almost not observed by the border policemen. From time to time came a jeep. Transits took the people as usual after checking ids. The El-kuds University gate was open and we wandered why so few people are passing the wall that way.Wadi Nar checkpoint – 7:00 This checkpoint is quite mobile, as we were told by the border policemen there. Once it was fixed at Obeyda, once at Sawachre. At Sawachre, the control is useless because many brave people climb up through the hills between Bethlehem and the S. village, and they can’t reach them at all, but it’s very dangerous for them to patrol there..We met there the new Abu-dis area DCO commander that will start the job next week and promised the conditions for the people in Abu-Dis soon will be meaningfully improved.
