Morning

Observers: civilians,soldier,other soldiers
May-13-2003
| Afternoon

A 2 km walk between 2 checkpoints, neither of which has a reason for being. The sudden appearance of an army jeep sent the taxis waiting at the roadside fleeing in panic: we, among other civilians, were nearly run over as the taxis rushed to escape. As we walked the kilometer back to our waiting taxi, a jeep passed us. The soldier asked if we thought there would be peace? His own view: “I don’t want peace, I want blood. These are all terrorists”. None of the other soldiers disagreed with him.
