Abu Dis, Mishor Adumim, Wadi Nar 6/1 2004 Morning shift: Participants: Judith S., Yael l., Nava , Hannah A. Mishor Adumim Arriving at 6,35 a.m. we found two yellow taxis with Palestinian numbers standing in the direction to Industrial Maale Adumim. In both were passengers sitting. Two ( blue) regular police officers, standing before their car, were checking papers. Before we had arranged ourselves with the morning coldness all three cars disappeared..At least at this time there was almost no traffic. Following the cars we were looking for another Machsom, but did not find any. So we were leaving to Wadi Nar. On the way on the highway in the direction to Jerusalem we saw two border policemen with their jeep building an obstacle. No stopped cars were around. Wadi NarArriving at 7,15 a.m. we found the Machsom tower completely surrounded by new wire. 7 young detainees were standing in the coldness without any protection. They got released short time after our arival. 6 border policemen were on duty. Their control seemed to be spot checks. Some people, taxis, trucks or private cars could pass without any check, others got stopped, and their papers checked. As long we were there the waiting period was not long.At 7,30 a jeep came. These borderpolicemen immediatly adressed to us. After having asked us who would be the boss and we having answered “all the 4 of us” one of them without name tag explained to us, that we had to stand behind the barriers for the cars and that none of them would speak to us. For any information we should ask the command in Abu Dis. At 7,35 the regular bus from Beit Sahour to Jericho arrived. Some passengers from Jordan had to wait outside for the control of their passports. The driver was telling us that he was passing the machsom every day and the control was almost the same .Most of the passengers would be students. Two other busses came from Bethlehem. During the time being there the Oecumenical service from Scandinavia, which is observing the machsom too, did not show off. So we could not give them the cards of Moked they had asked for.On the way to Abu Dis we were passing the checkpoint at Maale Adumim South. There stood some taxis, other cars and some people. Looked normal. We were driving into Asaria on an empty street. at 8 a.m. some people were sitting on projections of the wall, waiting for the moment the borderpolicemen in Abu Dis would leave. Abu Dis At Abu Dis at the gasolin station stood a jeep with two borderpolicemen. 16 detainees , among them 3 women, were waiting .They got their papers back soon after our arrival and were sent back to Asaria over the wall. People with blue ID’s could pass. At the wall between gasoline station and university the usual climbing took place. Some people came around the hotel. From it’s garden we saw the 8 m hight wall being built at the Moskovicz hill. It looks shocking like the wall of a prison for capital offenders. The borderpolicemen left the gasoline station soon and were checking people somewhere on the street to Jerusalem. Yael L——————————————————————————–
