Palestinian Jordan Valley – Meeting between Israeli Arab Women and the shepherds’ community
We conducted a tour for two Arab women from two villages in northern Israel. One of them is active in Arab-Jewish women’s peace organizations. We attempted to have them meet with as many families as possible so that they would remain in contact in the future. The women brought food items, kitchen utensils, and clothing to distribute to people who need them because it is a good deed to give to charity during the month of Ramadan.
We visited families in the communities in Khalat Makhul, Samara, and Ein el Hilweh. Our guests were shocked by the poverty and did not imagine that there were Palestinians who live under such difficult conditions. The most difficult was the visit to the home of B., the disabled child who was cared for by our members while she was in the hospitals in Israel.
They promised that they would recommend that their friends visit and donate to the tent communities in the Jordan Valley. A phoned yesterday and said that they were organizing another visit to Palestinian students. They intend to bring more food to the families who live in tents in the valley. I hope that these contacts will continue, since they are important to both sides.
There were no military activities at the checkpoints we passed.
Note:
The women mentioned here organized a truck with food items, clothing, and toys that were contributed by their villages and nearby communities. On Saturday, May 11th they traveled to the northern Jordan Valley with members of their families and another five students to distribute the food and other items to 40 shepherds’ families in honor of Ramadan.

הפעם עשינו סיור בבקעה לשתי נשים ערביות מאחד הכפרים בצפון הארץ, אחת מהן פעילה בארגוני שלום יהודים-ערבים. השתדלנו להפגיש אותן עם כמה שיותר משפחות, במטרה שייווצרו קשרים שיישמרו בעתיד. הנשים הביאו איתן מצרכי מזון, כלי מטבח ובגדים לחלק למי שנצרך, כי זו מצווה מן הקוראן לתת צדקה לקראת חג הרמדאן.
ביקרנו אצל משפחות בקהילות חאלת מקחול, סמרה ועין אל חילווה. הן הזדעזעו בעיקר מהעוני, לא תיארו לעצמן שיש פלסטינים שחיים בתנאים כאלה. בעיקר היה קשה הביקור בביתה של ב’, הילדה הנכה שחברותינו טיפלו בה בבתי חולים בארץ.
הן הבטיחו שימליצו למכריהן לבקר ולתרום לשוכני האוהלים בבקעה. ואכן א’ צלצלה אתמול וסיפרה שהן מארגנות ביקור עם עוד מספר סטודנטים פלסטינים. בדעתן להביא הרבה מצרכים כתרומה לבני קהילות הרועים בבקעה. אני מקווה שהקשרים האלה ימשיכו ויתהדקו, כי הם חשובים לשני הצדדים.
לא הייתה פעילות צבאית במחסומים שעברנו.
תוספת
הנשים המוזכרות לעיל ארגנו משאית עם מצרכי מזון, בגדים ומשחקים לילדים, שנתרמו ע”י אנשים מכפרן ומהיישובים הסמוכים.
בשבת 11.5 הן הגיעו עם בני משפחותיהן ועוד 5 סטודנטים לצפון הבקעה, וחילקו את המצרכים בין 40 משפחות רועים, לכבוד הרמדאן

Jordan Valley The Jordan Valley is the eastern strip of the West Bank. Its area consists of almost a third of the West Bank area. About 10,000 settlers live there, about 65,000 Palestinian residents in the villages and towns. In addition, about 15,000 are scattered in small shepherd communities. These communities are living in severe distress because of two types of harassment: the military declaring some of their living areas, as fire zones, evicting them for long hours from their residence to the scorching heat of the summer and the bitter cold of the winter. The other type is abuse by rioters who cling to the grazing areas of the shepherd communities, and the declared fire areas (without being deported). The many groundwaters in the Jordan Valley belong to Mekorot and are not available to Palestinians living in the Jordan Valley. The Palestinians bring water to their needs in high-cost followers.

Khalet Makhul
A small settlement of a shepherd community located on the way to the settlement of Hemdat. Two nearby outposts make life miserable for the Palestinians, who make a living from grazing, and the army backs the settlers. As a result, the possible grazing areas are getting smaller.
The local children attend school in the settlement of Ein Al-Beida. Long lines of 3 hours sometimes stretch out at the Hamra and Tayasir checkpoints leading to the town of Tubas, making it difficult to get water, supplies, and sell the cheese, milk, and meat that the residents produce for their living.
Following a deadly attack at the Tayasir checkpoint in February 2025, the checkpoint was closed completely for the time being.
