Qalandiya 14.1.04 Hagit K, Ivonne M., guest: Tzippi Troppe (film director) The Dead Sea in Qalandiya is how Palestinians bitterly call this disaster. due to torrential rains there is a great lake in the middle of the road leading to the checkpoint from the North, and very few big cars can go through. This road is the responsibility of the Municipality of Jerusalem (Lupoliansky), and the Israeli authorities insist in not allowing anyone else to take care of it, while they neglect it totally.This morning there was an attack on the Liason Office in Gaza, and 3soldiers and an Israeli civilian were killed. Soldiers use this as proofthat what they are doing is very important!!!Less and less people are attempting to go through Qalandiya, due to the verystrict procedures. This happens also when, like today, Ein Arik and othercheckpoints have been closed again. Unless someone is obviously bleedinghe will not be considered a humanitarian case. We could help no one.Hagit forgot her bag in the taxi taking us back to Ar-Ram checkpoint. The drivers who know us from Qalandiya, especially Hafez (the taxi coordinator), were all very helpful and drove us around looking for the bag, and none would accept payment. Some said they were very grateful to us for all the efforts and especially for what Aya K had done for them.
