Qalandiya, Wednesday afternoon, 1.11.2006Observers: Yvonne M., Ruthie B. (reporting), Natanya translating16.15 – A long line in front of the first turnstile and also in the only checking point which is open.16.30 – Very many cars in both directions. Many minibuses in the direction of Jerusalem. Some of the passengers alight to go through the pedestrian lane and to get on the bus on the other side. We met a delegation of Norwegians , representatives of trade organizations who had been waiting two hours at Hawarra to pass.16.45 – The pedestrian lane emptied as the result of another lane having been opened. The soldiers tell people not to smoke in the line.A fruitless effort on our part to find out from Oleg of the District Coordinator’s Office as to who is responsible for the soldiers at the checkpoint. The DCO says the blue police, but not over all the soldiers. And that is it!On the north side are unidentified buildings which turn out to be post office boxes under the auspices of the Jerusalem municipality.
