Qalandiya

Ar-Ram, 06:20. Almost no traffic, and
very few pedestrians.

Qalandya South: Works are being done on the road that leads to the
checkpoint, and it is a real mess. The Palestinians complained.
Some said it was part of the wall, others said the road was being
widened (this version was confirmed by the soldiers). An unusual
amount of northbound movement.

Qalandya North: The checkpoint was closed for some minutes, because
of a specific alert. There were around 70 people waiting. Ten
minutes later, the checkpoint was opened again. Two soldiers
(volunteers) were checking papers, out of several more there. We
requested, and another soldier was added. A young woman, H., was
especially nice, talking to the Palestinians as equals. The new
thing at Qalandya north is a megaphone, through which the soldiers
address the Palestinians in the queue — totally awful. H. told us
about a 6 year old boy who sells all kind of things. Every few
hours he needs to return home, and if the does not bring money, he
is beaten.

We can't promise to stop the violence.
