Qalandiya and surroundings
Qalandiya and surroundings: Atara checkpoint (Bir Zeit), 27.02.07 a.m.Observers: Neta E, Tamar A, Shira V (reporting)7:15: Route 449 to Silwad and Bitiin (going west from route 60 near Ofrah). The obstruction was removed. On our way back to Jerusalem we checked to see if the road was really open, but several hundred meters behind it, there is a second obstruction in both directions in which it would be possible to travel. Throughout our trip to the checkpoint, we saw army jeeps several times: one at the turn from route 60 in the direction of the checkpoint and the second further on on our way.7:20 There was a line of about 20 Palestinians waiting at the checkpoint in the direction of Bir Zeit. The soldiers at the checkpoint checked every vehicle. The men sometimes had to get out of them. After several minutes it became clear that tens of cars were accumulating there. We spoke with the humanitarian hotline and after several minutes, the soldiers at the checkpoint got instructions from Tzvika to speed up the checking. The soldiers at the checkpoint did speed up the checks and allowed most of the vehicles to cross, while they randomly checked some of them and pulled them over to the side for a more exacting check.7:45 The reservist commander Tzvika who ordered the speed up of the line arrived and assisted in lessening the length of the line. After about 15 minutes, he left.8:15 We left the checkoint when it was empty of cars.8:45 On the way back to Jerusalem, we saw from afar a line of cars from the Jabba (Leel) checkpoint.
