Sho’afat midnightObserver: Yvonne M (reporting)Thursday the 12.8.04 at midnight, coming back from friends in Shu’afat, I met a border police checkpoint 50 meters from the French Hill crossing. The soldiers were stopping every car and were very aggressively ordering every man to lift up his clothes and turn around. They were not checking the cars or their belongings. They were not looking for suspicious material, the point was to humiliate these Jerusalem residents or Palestinians who are Israeli citizens. The soldiers were very hostile to me (I had the badge and was writing) and threatened to take me for investigation. When I called the Border Police desk whose phone I got from the police, the guy on shift insulted me and then hang up the phone on me. One driver who had approached me and talked to me was punished and taken aside and kept for a long time. I could do nothing about it.
