Two police men and one soldier man the CP. mostly children going to school come through. Those that look older then 15 are asked for their ID or birth certificate. A number of young women teachers and older girls students are stopped. The teachers claim they do go through every day without a special permit and the guards insist on the permits which they can get at the Beith El, DCO. We call Elisha who arrives together with the Border Police commander of the entire Jerusalem area by the name of Rabia and they insist that the teachers have to once and for all aquire those permits. So have encountered innumerable times. As we drove to Abu-Dis on a very narrow and usually empty road. We encounter innumerable cars driving towards Jebel Mukaber in order to get to Jerusalem, we are told that the usual approach passing by the Dung gate near the Mugrabi entrance is closed to palestiniens that day , because of the riots on Friday and Sunday this week. It is hard to beleive the amount of trafic that took that little dangerous and unsuitable road that morning.We continue to Abu-Dis where we are met with considerable animosity. The only reason being the organization we represent. We continue to Zeitim CP , after we heard from Elisha that about 300 people come through every day, that all the requests are met daily even if it requires keeping the checkpoint open till late evening hours. He told us that for permits people can come every day and for magnetic cards each area has a given day. The orderly line is managed by the Palestinien themselves. There are very few people there as we come by. We go on to The Comtainer. A few taxies are being stopped , the ID’s taken, checked and given back within 10-15 minutes. Cars can go directly to Rammalla or via Jebel Mukaber. There is no waiting line.We return at 09:30
