uncluding Sheikh Saed
Sheikh Saed, Ras El Amud, Zeitim CP, The ContainerMonday, 02.07.2007, AMObservers: Maya B, Anat T., Rina R. (reporter)Sheikh Saed: 07:15 – Again we see that there are almost no people going through this checkpoint – the children are not coming because of the summer holiday. From the other direction there was traffic – they unloaded merchandise and took it into the village, and some families with their children entered Sheikh Saed. Everyone is waiting for the decision of the Supreme court about the place, and nobody knows when it will be given.Answering our question about Friday arrangements – a polite BP man tells us that they intend to get to a special arrangement with the elderly people who live in the neighborhood who want to get to the temple mount on Fridays – Elisha from the DCO is taking care of it, but the people have to be active and meet him. Anat will talk with May, a woman who lives there, and she should act quickly concening this issue. The Container: 08:00 – The traffic is flowing, except of two buses and a taxi travelling into Jerusalem, that are being detained for already half an hour while the documents of some passengers are being checked. They are waiting patiently and are finally released. On the other side they detain taxis going towards Beithlehem too and check documents.Zeitim CP: 08:40 – When we arrived we saw two groups of people: one for getting magnetic cards, and the other for different sorts of passing permits. To our surprise there was a BP Jeep parked opposite the shed, and the soldiers collected documents from the people inside, and checked them in the computer – why? in order to find something about someone who has already arrived at the DCO and send him home, or to write a report, or what? according to the people in the DCO this procedure is done every once in a while – the wonders of beaurocracy… All the people who needed permits were called to the DCO in one group, and those who had been waiting for magnetic cards (among them some who claimed that they had been there many times and were sent back since “the machine is broken”) kept seeting obediently. A phone call to Elisha revealed that the machine of magnetic cards is broken again, and according to him the news was distributed to the population yesterday – but it is a fact that at least 20 people did not know about it, and there was no note in the shed announcing it. Only after our talk they remembered in the DCO to announce to those waiting that they have nothing to wait for – and there were people waiting since 06:30! after some inquiring they told us in the DCO that one can phone very early in the morning, before the DCO opens for the public, to the emergency line that is operated in the DCO 24 hours, and find out if they accept people for production of magnetic cards.Deopite the fact that the note in Arabic, sending the inhabitants of Abu- Dis who need magnetic cards to the DCO in Jericho starting the 17.0.2007, this order is still valid. The machine, when it works, produces only 35 cards a day. The inhabitants of Abu-Dis have to go as far as forty minutes away every time – and it is clear that it takes more than one time.Az-Za’ayyem CP: 09:20 – When we arrived we saw about seven detainees from Hebron who had no permits. Since we did not have time to wait, and the BP woman did not give us any details about the procedure of detaining and releasing, we phoned Neta Ephroni, and she told us that those who try to pass into Jerusalem are expecting signature on reports and release home after an indefinte time.
