 'Azzun 'Atma

11.30      As we missed the exit from the road to 'Azzun 'Atma in the morning, we arrived at the end of the watch.
There was no traffic in the area of the checkpoint.  A bored woman soldier sits next to the booth, a second one stands on the other side.

The unit serving here at present is פלי"ז, i.e., a rescue unit.  This we were told by the woman soldier.

A single Palestinian crosses the checkpoint, asks the soldiers smilingly,"Who wants to check me?" He presents his ID and passes through immediately.

When we begin to leave, we notice the soldier running quickly southwards along the road, after the man who had just left the checkpoint. We rushed to our car so as to follow them. On our way to the car we hear a settler shouting at her from his car: " Is this how you let them escape?" By the time we reached our car and turned, we saw neither the soldier nor the Palestinian.  A bit further on there was an army jeep parked across the road.  This whole incident remained unexplained and there was no one to explain it to us.
