Escorting shepherds and comforting mourners in El Farisiya, north of the Jordan Valley
On Thursday, M., a resident of Farisiya village, died suddenly of a heart attack in the middle of the day, while staying with his brother in Tubas. A deep mourning descended upon the inhabitants of Farisiya. The burial and three days of mourning took place in Tubas and all the men, his brothers and cousins, stayed there. Only the women and children remained in the village, who very much requested our presence there during these days.
On Saturday we arrived with a missing lineup due to the illness of two companions. In the morning, there were only three families there that included only women and children. The atmosphere was depressing. We consoled them in silence, said what is said at such an event – we are sorry, may God have mercy, and we sat next to the crying women and cried with them. Over time we slowly became part of the family and the community, even if things touched us and our souls in a different way.
Two of us went out to accompany the 14-year-old boy who went out to graze the family’s flock. We were in the area until 12 o’clock and then we went to accompany N. from Beqaot, who was afraid to leave the area of his house when there were no companions with him.
The pasture passed quietly.
Most of the attendants went back to their home, only the two attendants of the night shift remained.
At 5:00 pm, some of the men returned to the village, and sat in a circle and told and told and even cried with each other about the brother who left, about the shared memories and the lives that changed in an instant..
We went to bed with a heavy heart.
The night passed quietly and without interruptions in the entire valley.
